Zaterdag spreekt Lavrov opnieuw in New York, maar dan op de Algemene Vergadering van de VN. Noord-Koreanen President Zelensky van Oekraïne deed dat vandaag. Hij riep landen op geen zaken meer te doen met Rusland. "Wie de Russen via handel meer geld geeft, verlengt de oorlog", zei Zelensky. Hij maakte in zijn toespraak ook bekend dat Oekraïne twee gevangengenomen Noord-Koreaanse militairen heeft uitgeleverd aan Zuid-Korea. Noord-Koreaanse troepen vechten aan Russische zijde mee. Volgens Zelensky zijn er al veel Noord-Koreaanse militairen omgekomen en is het zeldzaam dat ze gevangen worden genomen. "Deze jongens zijn moeilijk te pakken", sprak Zelensky. "Een van hen probeerde zichzelf te doden, maar het lot liet hem niet sterven." Deze week komen wereldleiders samen in New York. De Nederlandse premier heeft Zelensky kennis en expertise aangeboden om te helpen bij de bestrijding van corruptie en het schrappen van regels. Poetin uitgenodigd De Amerikaanse minister Rubio van Buitenlandse Zaken had in New York een ontmoeting met zijn Russische ambtgenoot Lavrov. Na afloop zei Rubio dat hij president Poetin heeft uitgenodigd voor de G20-top, die in december in Miami wordt gehouden. Rubio zei dat het voor het "oplossen van de problemen" goed zou zijn als Poetin naar die bijeenkomst van de grootste industrielanden komt. "We hopen dat hij de uitnodiging accepteert", aldus Rubio. Poetin heeft sinds de Russische invasie in Oekraïne in februari 2022 geen G20-top meer bijgewoond.
